5 Strategies To Improve Productivity In The Workplace
January 19, 2018
Do your employees spend long hours at work every day? Nowadays, many companies find that their employees are working overtime in order to get the minimum amount of work done. This means that the time spent in the office does not tally with the amount of work gotten done. In such cases, you have to ask yourself, why are your employees not getting work done? Most likely, they are not being productive during working hours. Therefore, here are 5 strategies you can use to improve your employees’ productivity!
1. Recruit Those That Fit
Every company has their own unique culture. To ensure that your employees are productive, you have to recruit someone that fits in with your company culture when you expand the team! The only way to do this is to put in more effort and pay close attention during the recruitment process. Other than the interview, you can also get the potential employee to do personality tests which will give you a good idea if they blend in well with the rest of your staff. With suitable colleagues, your team can then work productively and effectively together as a team!
2. Manage, But Don’t Micromanage
Although the two words look similar, they can have drastically different effects on your employees. Managing your staff would allow them to be clear of their tasks and work with a goal in mind. On the other hand, micromanaging would cause your employees to be overly dependent on you and have difficulty making their own decisions. When you micromanage, your staff would seek your approval for everything, down to the smallest details, wasting time and decreasing productivity at work. So, the rule of thumb is to manage, but never micromanage!
3. Reward Your Employees
Appreciation is a fundamental human need. Most, if not all, would want to feel appreciated by their companies. By rewarding your employees when they achieve a certain goal, you’re showing them that their efforts are valued in the workplace. This gives them a sense of achievement as their work is publicly acknowledged and praised. This encourages your staff to work harder to reciprocate your appreciation, improving productivity in the process!
4. Improve Your Office Culture
There’s no better way to increase workplace productivity than to improve your office culture. With better relationships with their colleagues, your employees will feel more comfortable to voice out their own opinions and contribute to the workplace. An easy way to improve office culture is to organise team building activities! With exciting team bonding games such as Laser Tag and Bubble Bump nowadays, the workplace can be filled with fun too!
5. Emphasise On Communication
One of the most frustrating things is when you have an urgent matter to raise, but still have to go through “proper procedures” to reach the management. Therefore, don’t make this mistake in your organisation! Instead of making your employees’ lives difficult by reaching you only through emails, implement a transparent system where communication is easier. This will allow your employees to share urgent issues directly with you and not waste time reporting to managers. Annual team building activities can also foster a closer bond amongst employees and enhance open communication!
